James Riney / DeNA
James Riney is a venture capitalist at the Japanese mobile internet giant, DeNA, where he focuses on consumer internet, virtual reality, healthcare, and IoT investments. He’s also led DeNA’s first investments in India, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Prior to DeNA, James was the founding CEO of STORYS.JP, a publishing platform for real life stories. The site is home to thousands of user submitted stories attracting millions of visitors in Japan, and is the birthplace of the Amazon #1 bestseller, “The Invincible Blonde Gal,” which sold over 300,000 copies and led to a major motion picture, netting $10M at the box office in the first 10 days. STORYS.JP is funded by Incubate Fund and ANRI, and its notable content partners include Yahoo! Japan, Kadokawa, Fuji Television, and Huffington Post.
In another life, he was a banker at J.P. Morgan in New York and Tokyo.
